What this tool does

Compress Image shrinks JPG, PNG, and WebP photos down to a smaller file size, in a batch if you need it. It's built for the moment a photo is too large to attach, too slow to load on a page, or simply bigger than it needs to be for how it's actually going to be used.

You pick a compression level and every image keeps its original format and aspect ratio, just at a smaller size. Each file downloads on its own, so a batch of compressed photos never gets bundled into a zip you then have to open and extract.

How to use it

Choose one or more images, then pick a compression level: Low, Medium, or High. Each level pairs a quality setting with a maximum dimension — Low keeps images closest to the original at a modest size reduction, High pushes both down further for the smallest possible file. There's nothing else to configure.

Press compress, and each image processes in your browser tab with a progress bar tracking the batch. When it's done, every result shows its before-and-after size so you can see exactly how much smaller each file got, and each one downloads individually.

Why nothing leaves your device

Every image is read, resized, and re-encoded using your browser's own image-processing code — nothing is sent to a server to be compressed elsewhere. Open your browser's network tab during a batch and you won't find a single request carrying your photos.

That also means there's no queue behind other people's files and no size limit imposed by someone else's server. Once you close the tab, nothing about the images you compressed is kept anywhere.

Quality and file size trade-offs

The compression level controls how aggressively JPG and WebP images are re-encoded — a higher level shrinks the file more but introduces more visible compression artifacts, especially in areas with fine detail or text. PNG is a lossless format, so the quality component has no effect on a PNG's own compression; the level's maximum-dimension component is what actually helps for a PNG, since it reduces the number of pixels being stored.

Medium is a reasonable starting point for most everyday photos, keeping the image looking essentially the same to the eye while cutting the file size noticeably — it's worth comparing the before-and-after sizes shown after compressing and trying a different level if the result isn't quite what you need.
